With my sleeves rolled up and my (small but loyal) team by my side, I successfully relocated an entire clinical laboratory with minimal downtime. The smooth transition was proof that all the meticulous planning with various technical specialists, movers, building management, architects, facility managements, etc. was efficient. I also precautionarily managed customer expectation before the process, and arranged for alternatives at the lab's expense for services to be delivered on time for all clients during our downtime. Prepared and hosted the COLA inspection in 2015, resulted in just one recommendation that did not require corrective action. Preparation for the inspection began months ahead, my team and I knocked out the self-assessment ahead of schedule, leaving us with ample time to investigate, rectify and create detailed summary for oversights and other errors that happened before I was hired for the role. I also led an internal clinical lab audit just before the inspection, with a never-seen-before zero finding.Other accomplishments include improved morale, improved vendor and customer relations, cost control, etc. These were the results of a combination of the following processes: a brand new inventory system, shifting vendor billing and payment responsibilities back to the lab for closer management, streamlining existing (and eliminating unnecessary) quality control and correlation practices, switching to volume-appropriate test methodologies, re-organizing staff work schedule to extend hours of operation while reducing overtime, brand new processes for reports and data delivery, etc. I particularly take pride in the fact that a few of my direct reports, equipped with knowledge and skills that they picked up while working for me, have moved on up the ladder to become lab director, lab manager, shift supervisor, etc.
