COURSE DESCRIPTION: As more veterans are leaving the military and returning to the civilian workforce, it is increasingly important that career practitioners have the training and resources to provide services and support to this population. This seminar will explore the unique aspects of working with veterans, the career theories that may work best for this population, and the strategies and resources that are effective. As the Career Counselor for alumni, I work with all UTSA alumni. We offer a full range of services to our alumni such as resume critiques, interview prep, developing job search strategies and researching employers. Developing a social media presence is often critical for job search success and students are encouraged to use several vehicles (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook) to become better connected. Additionally, I coach this population on decisions regarding career changes, pursuing graduate school and overcoming job loss.
