In Act 1 of his career, Shiva Kumar was an award-winning director, editor, and documentary filmmaker. His films have been seen on PBS, The Disney Channel, BBC, Israeli Cable, Canal Plus (France), RAI (Italy), NHK (Japan) and Doordarshan (India). His films for PBS include “Witness: Voices from the Holocaust, “Hitler’s Courts: Betrayal of the Rule of Law in Nazi Germany” and several animated children’s specials. His 3rd Holocaust-related feature production “Memory After Belsen” is available on Amazon Prime. In Act II of his career Shiva, a SAG actor has appeared in several commercials and guest roles most recently on FBI-Most Wanted, Madam Secretary, Law & Order SVU, All the Queen's Men, Uncoupled, Quantico, Succession, and Billions. In the 80’s Shiva was a newscaster and host on the popular South Asian TV programs - 'Vision of Asia' and 'Eye on Asia’, and a popular emcee for The Femina Miss India Pageant in the U.S. and in India. For Act III of his career, Shiva has combined science fiction, fantasy, and mythology, to write, 'The Lanka Chronicles’, a reimagining of the Indian epic' The Ramayana' in the 23rd century. 'An Awakening', Book 1 of the trilogy was released in 2022. 'A New Reality', Book 2 was released in 2023, and Book 3, "Path of Destiny’ is available now. His screenplay, 'Journey to Babylon', is a nostalgic, bittersweet coming-of-age story about a creative sixteen-year-old boy from India invited to his first wild summer bash in Babylon, Long Island in 1976. Trying desperately to be cool and accepted, the party becomes a crucible, where he discovers his unique take on the American dream. Born in New Delhi and educated in England, Egypt, Bhutan, India, and the United States, Shiva’s many projects are informed by his diverse background as actor, teacher, student of world cultures, history, and philosophy, combined with his abiding passion for the art and science of producing meaningful media in a digital world.
