Senior System EngineerItron, Inc. Aug 2024 - PresentLiberty Lake, Washington, United StatesKey responsibilities are:• Develop and optimize cost-effective protocols for battery-powered utility devices, including water, gas, and electric meters.• Support firmware development and testing, utilizing both simulation tools and physical hardware.• Analyze customer requirements and industry trends to propose and assess protocol enhancements.• Communicate findings and provide training to diverse internal and external audiences. -
Research EngineerMaxentric Technologies Feb 2023 - Aug 2024San Diego, California, United States• Owned client relationships and worked with their team to integrate our products to achieve their goals.• Interfaced CORE, EMANE, SDT and OLSR to emulate dynamic network topologies, involving virtual nodes and real hardware (Raspberry Pi and MediaTek router) equipped with omnidirectional and beam-forming antennas.• Modified OLSR protocol and created new services in CORE to automate traffic flow generation, visualization, and performance evaluation in terms of QoS and control and computational overheads.• Created custom APIs to allow learning agents to observe, interact, and control the environment. Used Reinforcement Learning to improve channel utilization, reliability, throughput, and end-to-end delay.• Assisted PIs with technical proposal writeups and pitch presentations. -
Postdoctoral ResearcherSdsu Research Foundation Jun 2023 - May 2024San Diego, California, United States• Developed a cross-layer (routing, MAC, and PHY) scheme to dynamically adapt waveforms in autonomous UAV networks based on changing network conditions and traffic demands.• Authored a paper on this work, currently under review. -
Graduate Research AssistantSan Diego State University Aug 2017 - Jan 2023San Diego, California, United StatesWorked on various projects, where the objective was to provide robust and reliable QoS-aware communication in airborne UAV Networks.Key highlights:1. Designed a low-complexity, distributed TDMA MAC protocol for directional communication - Published a journal paper in IEEE Access. - Received Qualcomm award for the best poster presentation at CSRC ACSESS event. - This work was featured in the 2020-21 year calendar of CSRC.2. Developed an adaptive, cross-layer, mobility- and congestion-aware proactive routing protocol for UAV network - Improved flow throughput by up to 59% compared to existing state-of-the-art proactive routing schemes at various network and traffic settings, and reduced computational complexity by more than 100 times. - Published a transaction paper in TAES, a conference paper in EWSN, and one technical report in arXiv. - Received Qualcomm award for the best poster presentation at CSRC ACSESS event.3. Developed a low-complexity, hybrid reactive routing protocol for SWAP-constrained UAV networks - Designed a novel pipe-based strategy, where a new route is selected, monitored, and switched (when its quality degrades) with very low overhead compared to other routing schemes. In addition, it improved the flow throughput by 10% or more at different network and traffic settings. - Collaborated with another Ph.D. student to integrate this routing scheme into a deep Q-learning connectivity-aware pheromone mobility model for autonomous UAV networks. - Two transaction papers are under review.Mentors: Prof. Sunil Kumar (SDSU), Prof. Alexander Ihler (UCI)Funded by: U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome, NY -
Instructional Student AssistantSan Diego State University-California State University Aug 2016 - May 2021California, UsaFrequently gave lectures to Multimedia Wireless Networks and Communication Systems classes at SDSU. -
Graduate Research AssistantSan Diego State University-California State University Aug 2015 - May 2017San Diego, CaliforniaMy research topic 'Design and Implementation of Cross-Layer Wireless Protocols in OPNET (a.k.a. Riverbed Modeler)' was focused on the famous 1000x challenge put forward by Qualcomm. The objective was to increase the spatial efficiency by using Multi-Beam Directional Antenna for which I redefined the IEEE 802.11b DCF CSMA/CA standard in OPNET. Its main features are:- Introduced concurrent packet transmission and reception capability,- Designed antenna patterns for highly directional beams, and- Interfaced the modified MAC with the network layer.Published a conference paper in IEEE ICCCN (received the best paper award), a technical report in arXiv, and co-authored a journal paper for this work.Mentor: Prof. Sunil Kumar (SDSU) -
Visiting ScholarThe University Of Alabama Jun 2017 - Jul 2017Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United StatesStudied machine learning techniques to improve communication in dynamic wireless networks.Mentors: Prof. Fei Hu (UA), Prof. Sunil Kumar (SDSU) -
Visting ScholarSan Diego State University-California State University Jul 2014 - Aug 2014San Diego, CaliforniaWorked in the VLSI Design and Test Lab at SDSU on the topic "Development of Wireless Mesh Network Testbed using WiFi radios".- Reconfigured WiFi Pineapple router, which is an OpenWrt distributed device.- Created new firmware and evaluated the performance of the mesh network.Mentors: Prof. Sunil Kumar (SDSU), Prof. Amir AliMohammad (SDSU)
