Prof (Dr) H. Shivananda Murthy is serving as Dean, College of Fisheries, Mangalore, earlier as Regsitrar of the Karnataka Veterinery & Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) and also as Director of Extension. He worked as Professor & Head/Professor, Department of Aquaculture at College of Fisheries (KVAFSU), Mangalore for with total experience of 38 years. He did BFSc, M.F.Sc., and Ph.D., in Fisheries/Aquaculture from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and had Post Doctoral Research at University of Stirling , UK, for six months; at Texas A & M University, USA, for three months and at University of Santiago, Spain. Has put in total service of 37 years in Education, Research & Development/Extension in different capacities namely, as Registrar, Director, Professor, Associate Professor and other positions. Handled 17 major externally funded research projects as Principal Investigator funded by different international and national funding agencies. He has guided 40 research scholars in Aquaculture and Biosciences as Research Guide. He has published over 280 publications inluding 156 research papers, books and other publications. Organized number of national and international conferences/symposia and training programmes. Has visited Spain, UK, USA, Denmark, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Hongkong and other countries. He is the Recipient of several prestigious national/international awards for contributions in ‘aquaculture & fisheries’ including the ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Award’ of the Government of India, ‘Sir C V Raman Award’ of the Government of Karnataka and several other awards and recognitions. Served as Member of the Planning Commission Committee, Karnataka Biodiversity Board, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi, Technical Advisory Committee of the KSPCB and other organizations. He was a Keynote speaker, chaired sessions and presented lead papers in 53 international and national conferences.
