The Office of New Student & Family Programs oversees the development and implementation of all orientation programs designed for new first year and transfer students and their families. Through programming, the Office of New Student & Family Programs compliments the mission of Georgia Southern University and prepares students to become successful during their academic career. The Office of New Student & Family Programs also fosters collaboration with parents and family members to provide resources and information empowering families to aid in their student’s success. Services beyond the summer orientation program include outreach to parents and families through association memberships, newsletters, online services, volunteer opportunities, and special family visit programs to bring families back to campus. To that end, graduate assistants are vital components in the continuing development and implementation of these programs and services.

As a research assistant, I assisted two Experimental and Clinical Psychology Masters graduate students in thesis preparation by conducting literature review and drafting questionnaires and surveys. Recruited and screened student volunteers to participate in research study and drafted mock research study in Qualtrics and presented to Psychology department.

SOAR is Georgia Southern University's new student orientation. As a SOAR Leader, I worked as a part of a Team to produce an effective and entertaining orientation program for 6,000+ new students and parents. I served as a role model to new students and as a representation of Georgia Southern.• Led and supervised small groups of 15-20 student for 15 summer orientation session• Adhered and upheld to all policies and procedures outlined in the Student Code Conduct• Followed guidelines as it related to student records and confidentiality• Coordinated events and activities to boost spirit and morale of orientation team• Picked and executed theme days during May training for orientation team• Coordinated with same committee on Georgia Southern University’s partner campus

The Spirit Committee was responsible for maintaining the energy and morale of the team, spreading Eagle Pride amongst the team before Southeast Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) and selecting any additional accessories to make our daily outfits more spirited. While at SROW, we used our creative minds to lead the team in spreading the Georgia Southern spirit. In charge of designing the banner and creating the roll call change for SROW. Committee was made up of six spirited, creative, artistic individuals.
