The microstructures of butterfly scales promote radiative cooling and contain unique spectral properties, which can be applied in buildings/urban design to mitigate climate change impacts, like extreme heat.Goal: Identified novel methods for high-throughput cross-sectioning of butterfly wing scales Application: Cross-sections can be inputted to train a machine learning algorithm, to create a repository which is able to match the micro-structure of butterfly scales to a corresponding spectral profileLab(s): Aizenberg and Pierce
