During my graduate education, I studied the protein tau in the context of Alzheimer's disease and traumatic brain injury. I trained in a variety of wet-lab/bench techniques including western blotting, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence staining and imaging, cell culture techniques, DNA transformation and cloning, and in-vitro translation assays. My in vivo animal work included breeding of transgenic mouse lines and maintenance of the colony, small animal surgeries (controlled cortical impact model of TBI, stereotactic injections of dye and AAV into mouse brains, and cranial window implantation), and tissue collection (including brain dissection and heart tissue collection).
