Research Associate
BFTI is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) organization created by the government’s Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and the private sector, with a mandate to offer research, training, policy advocacy, consultancy and education on international trade. As part of my job responsibility I provide research assistance on international trade agreements, trade negotiations, trade policy analysis, trade in services, tourism etc. I provide policy advice and research support to the MoC through BFTI in order to strengthen its position in international trade negotiations. I am heavily involved in providing research and policy support to the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) on Trade in services issues. My portfolio includes but is not limited to; support to University of Dhaka in tourism policy planning through Center for Tourism, support to develop tourism research of University of Dhaka, support to MoC and TPSP in preparation of Comprehensive Trade Policy (CTP) of Bangladesh (including tourism chapter/ trade in services), support to the MoC in preparing the country position for the WTO 9th Ministerial Conference, assistance in preparation of observations by the MoC on Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) prepared by the World Bank, policy support to the MoC on contemporary issues related to Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector of Bangladesh, input to the MoC on several ongoing trade policy and bilateral, regional and multilateral trade issues (for instance, Canada-Bangladesh trade and economic relation, UAE-Bangladesh trade relation, Bhutan-Bangladesh, BIMSTEC trade facilitation, SAARC etc.), assistance in preparation of Bangladesh’s request list under GATS, feedback to the MoC on Bangladesh’s position on mode 4 of the GATS, Services Waiver etc.
