I am passionate about helping communities build sustainable infrastructure at the intersection of communications and energy to improve electric system efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet the world's growing energy needs. I presently pursue this passion as Co-founder and President of Post Road Foundation and Post Road Community Partners, which help communities develop intelligent, broadband-connected infrastructure to drive digital inclusion, efficient resource management and economic growth. For example, we are presently demonstrating, in collaboration with the GisMo group at SLAC national accelerator laboratory, a unique grid modernization technology that uses broadband communication networks to implement wholesale-style markets with distributed energy resources. This technology has the potential to accelerate decarbonization and beneficial electrification in a consumer-focused and community-driven manner. Prior to co-founding Post Road, I advised government, university and corporate clients on microgrids, distributed energy resources, energy and electricity policy, voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies, and cleantech commercialization as an independent consultant. I also write scholarly articles about electricity regulation, nuclear non-proliferation, climate-related technology governance issues, and energy ethics. I am trained as both an environmental/energy attorney and an experimental nuclear physicist. As a physicist, I built experiments looking for particles of dark matter and helped run a radiation oncology startup company that fabricates medical devices for cancer therapy as the Director of R&D and Chief Science Officer.
