I have worked in the Antenna and Radar design fields for Aerospace, Commercial and Consumer communities for several decades. This includes satellites, military, scientific, covert, high volume as well as one of a kind antennas and antenna systems. I have significant experience in designing antennas and radars for challenging environments, both very low and very high power including active, passive, SAR and AESA systems. Areas of interest include thinned arrays, interferometry (including VLBI), SAR, Bi-Static, modeling, prototyping and integration. Experience includes proposal writing, design to spec, PDR, CDR presentations and final acceptance testing. Additionally I have significant experience in the electro optics, mm-wave and sensor areas for use in optical astronomy, radio astronomy, military and scientific arenas. From a recent contract win:Kevin Shoemaker will serve as an antenna design, analysis and testing consultant on the Phase I effort. Mr. Shoemaker is a national leader in the area of RF and antenna design for Defense and Meteorological radars with 30+ years experience. As President of his consulting firm, Shoemaker Labs, Mr. Shoemaker has consulted for many of the nations leaders in radar and ES systems: Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace, Orbital Sciences, NASA, etc. Key prior positions include Chief System Engineer for Harris Corporation and Lead RF Engineer for Lockheed Martin. Mr. Shoemaker has 17 patents for antenna designs, radar systems, and meteorological sensors. In Phase I he will be a key consultant in the wideband antenna array design, and in Phase II will support fabrication, testing, and calibration of a prototype wideband array for demonstration.Relevant Experience: Mr. Shoemaker’s relevant experience for the proposed program is in design and testing of advanced antennas for radar and ES applications. Mr. Shoemaker has designed and developed electronically steered adaptive phased arrays for multiple weather radar systems. He also designed the Space Shuttle’s emergency backup antenna, as well as Air Force One’s wide beam, high gain antenna system.
