Camp Nature Quest is a day-camp provided by the Rockford Park District in the summers for children ages 5-10. My role, as a camp leader, is to supervise a group of 6-12 children and plan age-appropriate activities that coordinate with that week's theme. Every week the students get to tie-dye, play with our Nature Room animals, do archery, play games, go on hikes, sing songs, go on field trips, and cook lunch outside on a fire. The goal of each week is for the students to have a fun, but also to learn something about science and how much fun it can be!

Davenport, Iowa Area

Project Renewal is an after school program that helps at-risk students in the Davenport area. My job, on the surface, was to help with homework and play games with students after school; however, my role at Project Renewal was so much more! I was also there to be a positive role model for students who didn't many outside of the house, help students become excited about learning, teach students that they CAN learn and to be proud of their accomplishments, and to simply show them that they are important and that people care about them. In the three and a half years I worked at Project Renewal, I learned so much about how important it is to truly know my students so I can help them in the best way possible because there is so much more to a student than someone who sits in a desk in your classroom.
