Profile bio

About Steven Hoober

I have written books on mobile design patterns and best practices for O’Reilly and Smashing, and am best known for ongoing research into how people really use touchscreen phones and tablets. Originally a graphic designer, I was a “web designer,” front end developer, UX coder, and DBA in the 90s, and since then have been an information architect, human factors engineer, and more. I have been creating what we'd later call design systems for almost all my projects — from startups to Fortune 50s — since the early 2000s. I have deliberately left the unicorn designer/developer behind, and focused on designing user experience, usability, and service design for mobile and multi-channel products. I have designed numerous products in use globally including the first Google mobile search, the first mobile app store, mobile browsers for companies including Samsung, websites like Weather.com and Lowe's home improvement, and apps for companies like Hallmark, US Bank, HP, and Cummins.

Listed skills include User Experience, User Interface Design, Information Architecture, User Centered Design, and 46 others.
