The Student Chapter of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly, SLO) was established in 1978 as part of a commitment to the recruitment and retention of Hispanic science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students. SHPE Cal Poly SLO has grown to be nationally recognized as one of the finest and largest chapters in the United States. Locally, we have become one of the most active organizations on campus and continue to have a positive impact on our community through volunteer work and outreach events/activities. Under the umbrella of the Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP), we honor ourselves in providing multiple resources for underrepresented students to assist in recruitment and retention, such as advising and tutoring services.SHPE Cal Poly SLO is a non-profit organization that provides students the opportunity to become stronger scholars, better professionals, and overall better members of society. We focus on academic development, professional development, leadership development, community outreach, and chapter development.
