    I introduced another applicative approach of heterogeneous oxide composite, and here I discussed the synthesis of visible-light-driven barium tantalum oxynitride (BaTaO2N) prepared from perovskite-type oxide precursor (Na0.25Ba0.75)(Zn0.25Ta0.75)O3 (NBZTO). The (BaTaO2N) oxynitride is a much known and most studied photocatalyst for hydrogen evolution photocatalyst, but very few reported data on its utilization of it as an oxygen evolution photocatalyst. I design a precursor oxide with a perovskite-type structure and a Ba/Ta ratio of unity by incorporating volatile elements with similar ionic radii. BaTaO2N nitrided from a novel precursor oxide, nominally expressed as “(Na0.25Ba0.75)(Zn0.25Ta0.75)O3”, shows an apparent quantum yield of 11.9% at 420 nm in a photocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction, more than fivefold greater than the existing BaTaO2N photocatalysts. This work opens new opportunities for the development of (oxy) nitride photocatalysts from tailor-made precursor oxides. J. Mater. Chem. A, 2020,8, 1127-1130.
