Doctoral Researcher - Scott Evans Laboratory
• Identified two different mechanisms by which therapeutically-inducible epithelial responses in the lungs protect mice against viral pneumonia-related death - 1) by robust inactivation of viral particles and 2) by prevention of CD8+ T cell mediated immunopathology, both of which require epithelial reactive oxygen species generation.• Determined that Sendai virus pneumonia leads to increased lung epithelial IL-33 production that can be prevented by therapeutic stimulation of the lung mucosal responses. • Determined that Type I interferons are not required for inducible epithelial resistance against viral pneumonia. • Developed multi-parameter flow-cytometry panels for identification of various myeloid and lymphoid cell populations in lungs.
Research Scientist Associate I
Graduate Research Assistant - Arulanandam Laboratory
• Developed the USDA-regulated Guinea pig model for chlamydial pathogenesis and vaccine development by intranasal vaccination using Guinea pig-specific transcriptomic and metabolomics approaches. • Characterized antigen-specific immune responses generated by intranasal vaccinations and identified antigen-specific IFN-γ and neutralizing antibodies are important in protection against chlamydial infections and host pathology in female mice and Guinea pigs• Characterized early chlamydial colonization to murine female genital tract at different stages of infection using in vivo whole animal body imaging technique. • Investigated the role of host microRNAs in murine female genital tract following chlamydial infection and identified the role of microRNAs 16, 214 and 155 in regulation of antigen-specific responses against murine chlamydial infections
Teaching Assistant
• Taught basic principles of biochemistry to undergraduate laboratory class of 20 students • Organized over 2 semesters of lectures and laboratory sessions in addition to grading students’ experiments and exams.
