Lead the Electric Motor Sub-Team on University of Michigan Supermileage to efficiently design a battery electric vehicle with the highest fuel economy to compete annually at the Shell Eco-Marathon

- Designed and optimized functional nanopores for the electrical detection and effective characterization of large biomolecules- Formed 100+ solid state SiN nanopores (diameter ≤ 30 nm) on Si/SiN chips by causing dielectric breakdown using low-voltage, multi-pulse current protocols- Prepared hydrogels (PEG-DMA, Agarose) to characterize biomolecule of interest in microfluidic chambers housing Si/SiN chips- Conducted independent experiments with over 50 Si/SiN chips to quantitatively characterize the change in conductivity of symmetric or asymmetric buffers on addition of hydrogel; discovered an average 30% decrease in conductivity that reshaped data analysis of particle size and orientation- Characterized baseline current and associated resistance of nanopores in 150-200 control experiments with gold nanoparticles- Analyzed baseline deviations in current traces at 8-10 voltage levels per experiment cycle for frequency, amplitude, and dwell time to identify complex proteins (IgG, BSA) and characterize their orientation- Used MATLAB’s mathematical modeling software to parse through 100,000+ points for noise reduction, event detection, outlier characterization, and presentation in easily interpretable histograms of 50+ data traces per experiment cycle

- Closely worked with a team of 4 other bioengineers to develop micro pH sensors for in vivo intracellular measurements to improve targeting capabilities of pH-dependent chemotherapeutics- Carried out service life reliability studies on commercially available micro pH sensors (glass membrane electrodes, ISFETs, fluorescence imaging and optical) for long-term (> 24 hours), continuous, and highly sensitive intracellular measurement potential in mouse models of human lung cancer- Designed a potentiometric pH sensing tungsten microelectrode coated with gold (Au), platinum (Pt) and iridium oxide (IrO2) that is sturdy enough to provide long term, continuous, and highly sensitive intracellular pH measurements- Assembled and calibrated the pH measurement circuit consisting of low pass filters and operational amplifiers- Assembled 15-20 pH probe prototypes of tungsten tip diameter 5 µm and 25 µm with silver wires and electrodeposited Pt and IrO2 on Au-coated tungsten using cyclic voltammetry- Characterized stiffness of micro pH probes by puncture tests in agarose hydrogels of varying complex moduli- Successfully developed a viable prototype and demonstrated its ability to withstand harsh tumor micro-environments by obtaining stable electrical signals over 6 hours
