I supported the department in its work on real-time capable image and data processing onboard a commercial UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system during the internship. My tasks included:- the interfacing of an embedded hardware to a commercial UAV system using the Robot Operating System (ROS),- the commissioning and investigation of procedures for real-time estimation of the camera trajectory onboard the UAV using state-of-the-art Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms,- the geographic referencing of the estimated trajectory,- as well as support in the design and development of a demonstrator consisting of the system itself and a suitable visualization of the results on a ground control station.In this course of the internship, I used C++, Qt and Python, software libraries such as ROS, OpenCV and OpenSceneGraph, as well as the use of existing development tools, versioning and package management systems for the tasks and goals.
