I worked on identifying variants, genes, and gene-sets that contribute to the risk for mood and anxiety disorders so that better methods of diagnosis and treatment can be developed. I am currently working on an exome-wide association study for treatment-resistant depression patients. I am also working on determining partition heritability in an allele-specific expression study with schizophrenia, bipolar, and treatment-resistant depression patients. I am also taking a course through the FAES called "STAT 515 - Statistics for Biomedical Researchers".

Worked on cloning and sanger sequencing of Ataxin2 trinucleotide repeat expansions in ALS patients to determine the occurrence of different motifs. Wrote a python script to parse through ExpansionHunter log output files to determine the length of trinucleotide repeats and the location of interruptions. Conducted research on the genetic predispositions causing ALS, in patients as gathered by the Genomic Translation for ALS Care (GTAC) consortium using annotation software such as ANNOVAR and ATAV. Wrote a python script to automate the annotation and analysis process for multiple VCF files. Processed, logged, and sequenced GTAC samples. Worked on characterizing the etiology of how mutated HSPB8 leads to muscular dystrophy.
Student Researcher At Dr. Erin Heinzen'S Lab
Worked on developing a plasmid that would allow for neurons derived induced pluripotent stem cells to be implanted in mice brains with a gene SLC35A2 to build a murine model for this specific genetic variant of epilepsy. By creating this model, glucagon therapy could be tested to treat a formally resistant form of epilepsy. Worked on optimizing the specificity of an antibody LHX6 toward excitatory neurons in regard to FANS sorting.

Worked in the Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine department at NYU Winthrop Hospital as a Student Researcher on multiple research projects with Lauren Kohan, Brian Gillette, and Raelina Howell, including one on developing a protocol on how to treat Necrotizing Fasciitis, and another on collecting data about certain risk factors about ulcers to find a correlation between said risk factors and the formation of ulcers. Worked on gathering data points for AI study that will determine the efficacy of using AI to determine wound area. Evaluated the use of K-means clustering in determining wound area from images. Publishing case report about an extremely rare case of iatrogenic Kwashiorkor, a form of severe protein malnutrition, in the American Surgeon: Southeastern Congress.

Developed and characterized a low molecular weight alcohol- sugar-based oleogelator gel for the purpose of drug delivery of Carvacrol, an essential oil known primarily for its antimicrobial properties. The developed drug delivery vehicle, using carvacrol as a model drug, can be used to deliver other lipophilic compounds in a highly controlled, highly targeted fashion.
