  • University Of Ottawa
    Research Assistant
University Of Ottawa May 2022 - Aug 2023
    Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Thesis topic: Automated Implementation of the Edinburgh Visual Gait Score (EVGS)Supervisors: Dr. Natalie Baddourl, Dr. Edward LemaireDuring my time as a research assistant at the Mobile Motion Lab, I worked on a specific project that aimed to make gait analysis accessible to all, regardless of their location. Our goal was to develop a system that could automatically detect foot events and strides while calculating EVGS from smartphone videos. Using OpenPose keypoints, I simplified the process of visual gait analysis, eliminating manual calculations. The result is a system that not only democratizes gait analysis for patients and caregivers using smartphone videos but also eases the workload for clinicians. Our system stands out for its ability to capture patient movements remotely, perform automatic EVGS calculations, and remove the need for specialized equipment. My role involved designing data collection strategies, developing algorithms for detecting foot events and strides, conducting literature reviews, and contributing to research papers.
