Using CRISPR-cas 9 on drosophila (fruit fly) to model the function of CG3740, the fly homologue of c19orf12, a gene which is thought to contribute towards proper axonal endoplasmic reticulum structure. Malfunction of c19orf12 has been reported to cause SPG43 (a variant of hereditary spastic paraplegia, which causes lower limb spasticity).(O'Kane lab)
