Utility construction and maintenance often occurs in proximity to resource areas. I inspect these sites during all phases of construction and monitor for environmental concerns such as erosion, sediment discharge into wetlands, impact to catch basins and streams, tree removals, vegetation growth in disturbed areas, and more. My job is to document site conditions via photographs and notes and then drafting reports which include current conditions and recommendations for addressing any concerns to send to clients.In addition to construction inspections, I will assist with rare species monitoring on construction sites within NHESP zones, vernal pool surveys, rare plant surveys, and monitoring Low Ground Pressure vehicles during wetland crossing.

This role challenged me to balance the priorities of landowners with the regulations for land use, primarily through wetland permitting. Enforcing local and state bylaws and regulations, conducting site visits, answering questions from concerned citizens, collaborating with professionals, constantly seeking new skills and opportunities to learn - I walked into work each day with a sense of purpose.Every day was an opportunity to deepen my understanding of local priorities, whether it was recreation for their family members old and young, fishing the rivers, hunting the woods, growing food for neighbors, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere tucked away from the developed areas, or admiring the view after a rigorous hike. Protecting these critical natural areas was my first priority, but permitting is much more than a piece of paper, it is people's livelihood, and I always took that into consideration.

This is a volunteer position where I am responsible for setting meeting agendas, coordinating meetings, sending out reminders, keeping on track to meet deadlines, and record/report budgetary needs.I became involved by being an active member of the group and was offered this leadership position after 6 months.
