I manage Healthwatch York, providing a strategic lead, managing the Healthwatch York staff team, and lead on work planning and service delivery. Healthwatch is an initiative, set up by Government, to make sure people can influence and challenge health and social care services.

Middlesbrough

My responsibilities included supporting new and existing voluntary and community organisations with issues such as governance, business planning, policies and procedures, fundraising, income generation, monitoring and evaluation. I was also tasked with challenging voluntary groups to consider the implications of current government policies for their organisations, encouraging new income sources and new ways of working, including partnership and collaborative working models. I prepared reports and management information for the Board, and represented the organisation locally, regionally and nationally. I also had the opportunity to undertake research into services provided, including considering the needs of larger, more established organisations.

My responsibilities were to assess applications against criteria, making recommendations for funding on a range of schemes, using bespoke IT systems to produce high quality and timely decision making reports for committees and the Board. I managed a caseload of grant monitoring and ensured compliance with terms and conditions. I authorised payments to grant holders, and provided support to applicants and award partners to maximise effective grant making. I maintained records, from application through to final monitoring. I contributed to the work of the programme team, to make sure key performance indicators were met. I also completed monitoring visits to groups, reviewing paperwork to ensure compliance with the grant terms and conditions and delivery against outcomes.

I managed a caseload of over 200 projects, including the assessment, payment and monitoring of small grant applications in line with Trust criteria. I liaised with and supported applicants at all stages of the grantmaking process. I prepared Board papers, data and reports, and undertook peer review. I analysed complex financial data and information to produce formal project reports for the Trustee Board. I undertook visits and presentations to community groups, and updated policies and procedures to improve service delivery. I also provided line management cover for the Grants Assistants, and distributed workload to the Grants Assistance Team when the Co-ordinator was absent.
