Head Of Business Technology
The NSPCC is the UK's leading children's charity, dedicated to ending child abuse and neglect. As a member of the senior leadership team, I lead the Technology & Data department's partnerships and engagement across the organisation. My team and I advocate for the needs and perspectives of our staff, volunteers, service users and supporters, and work with the rest of the Technology & Data team and our suppliers to ensure alignment and effectiveness in our strategy and services.I manage a diverse team of Business Relationship Managers, Business Analysts, Product Managers and Technology Adoption Specialists, fostering trusted partnerships with stakeholders throughout the NSPCC. I oversee investment initiatives that are delivering a step change in our technology services and drive the adoption and user proficiency of digital technologies across the Society. Additionally, I am responsible for the continuous improvement of the NSPCC and Childline websites, as well as key digital products such as our “Letter from Santa” and Cubie, the Childline chatbot.
Associate Head Of Data Platforms
I led the technical workstream for a major data strategy programme, successfully delivering a new data warehouse populated from operational systems using the Talend ETL (extract, transform, load) tool. I also spearheaded the automation of several manual data feeds between various internal and external systems, with my team leveraging Talend to improve data quality and recency in reporting and analytics. This initiative resulted in significant time savings for both business and technology teams, allowing them to focus on more value-added activities such as generating income.
Interim Head Of Data
In addition to my role as Associate Head of Data Platforms, I was appointed to lead the Data & Analytics team during the recruitment of a permanent Head of Data. In this capacity, I was responsible for Data Governance, including chairing the Digital Ethics Board, as well as overseeing the Analytics & Reporting team, and the Data Planning & Operations team. I led the development of a Corporate Data Strategy with pro bono support from KPMG, which involved extensive consultations consulting teams across the organisation and leading strategic workshops.
Non Executive Director With Responsibility For Technology And Data Security
Business Analyst & Project Lead Contractor
After enjoying my first charity role at The Challenge, I sought a position that would provide insights into three key aspects of the sector that were not applicable at The Challenge: fundraising, volunteers, and legacy technology. I was very pleased to join the NSPCC, an organisation I had supported for 20 years, on a short-term contract utilising my business analyst skills. I was quickly asked to take over as Project Lead for the technical aspects of a Supporter Data Strategy programme, which led to an invitation to apply for the role of Associate Head of Data Platforms. Although this role was more junior than my previous position at The Challenge, I accepted it due to the challenges posed by the global pandemic.
Head Of It & Systems
The Challenge was the UK’s leading charity in building an integrated society. We designed and delivered programmes to bring people together from diverse backgrounds, enhancing their confidence and skills in connecting with others. Until 2019, we were the biggest provider of the National Citizen Service (NCS) for 16 and 17-year-olds, and we also ran the HeadStart volunteering and skills programme and an Industry Placements programme for college students. As a member of The Challenge's Senior Leadership Team, I led the Salesforce and Technology teams in designing, delivering and maintaining IT services that supported our colleagues in delivering social integration programmes. Overseeing a team of 14 and managing a £3.2m budget, I drove improvements in service delivery and cost efficiencies, led an organisation-wide Information Security project (achieving Cyber Essentials Plus and preparing for ISO27001 certification) and provided day-to-day support for 600 core staff and 340 summer programme delivery staff.Following the loss of the NCS contract in 2019 which resulted in a 97% reduction in funding, my focus switched to downscaling the organisation. I ensured the HeadStart and Industry Placements teams had a fit-for-purpose IT asset base and operating model for the future, including running an RFP to outsource IT support.Unfortunately, The Challenge went into administration at the end of November 2019. I became part of a small team working with administrators to transition the HeadStart and Industry Placements team to other organisations and ultimately wind down the organisation up in early in 2020.
Global Functional Lead
I was responsible for the definition, development, implementation and governance of a set of business processes and supporting applications used by thousands of staff, partners and customers globally. I worked with Global and Regional Process Owners to identify business needs, addressing existing problem areas as well as new opportunities. We worked together to define requirements for enhancements and new products, prioritising activities against business strategic objectives and regulatory requirements. I supported the resulting projects from business case through to implementation, working with IT and change management colleagues, external software developers and key stakeholders across the business.I was supported in my role by internal and external Business Analysts for whom I provided direction, prioritisation of tasks, support and mentoring. Two BAs reported directly to me and I managed others as required. My primary responsibilities were in the management and process improvement of asset tracking. I played a product management role for the applications in this strategic, mission critical toolset. I developed effective relationships with senior stakeholders across the Global, Regional and Country business and IT teams, and built on the trusted advisor reputation that I developed while in more junior roles earlier in my career.
