With over 20 years of experience as a geoscientist and a STEAM communicator, I have a passion for making connections, creating opportunities, and out-of-the-box thinking.I am also an astronaut with Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to orbit the Earth. Astronomy In Chile Educator Ambassadors Program (Aceap)
The Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassadors Program (ACEAP) is a collaboration between AUI, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, National Optical Astronomy Observatory, and Gemini Observatory, and is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF 1439408). The Program brings amateur astronomers, planetarium personnel, and K-16 formal and informal astronomy educators to US astronomy facilities in Chile. While at these facilities, ACEAP Ambassadors will receive extensive training about the instruments, the science, data products, and communicating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts. When they return home, the Ambassadors will share their experiences and observatory resources with schools and community groups across the US.

I have done two SCC TechTalks. The first was in February 2014 when I talked about the HI-SEAS Mars Simulation and the second was in February 2014 when I presented on my PolarTREC experience in Barrow, Alaska.
Historical Ecology For Risk Managment
The project emphases was 1) a bibliographic database of relevant historical resources, 2) an examination of the shoreline to provide a long time-series baseline, 3) simulation models to demonstrate socio-natural cycles of change for the North Slope shoreline, 4) the historical ecology study of the shoreline, interactive mapping and database available as a web based resource to assist academia, industry, regional government and local communities for socio-natural risk management (e.g., Barrow Area Information Database, 5) an integrated team of researchers, corporations, community planners, and Risk Management of the North Slope Borough to extract data and provide simulation models that apply to current studies and hazards of the region, especially mitigation tools for community decisions, and 6) provide a variety of eco-heritage opportunities that include community participation in research, educational products, age level appropriate activities and outreaches for community service learning, such as Teen CERT for the Next Generations and PolarTREC.

I was the education outreach officer for the first NASA funded HI-SEAS mission. We spent 4 months living in a Mars simulation researching food strategies for long duration space flight. While in the Hab I ran a food show called Meals for Mars and created educational videos.

Nasa Spaceflight And Life Sciences Training Program (Slstp)
NASA Spaceflight and Life Sciences Training Program is a summer research traineeship forcollege science students. The program lasted for 8 weeks (June 1st-July 22nd, 2004) and waslocated at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. I was a project counselor for ecology and in chargeof 10 students. The role of the counselor was to assist the trainees with understanding scientificconcepts and doing research. Responsibilities included making sure students successfullyworked with the NASA scientist and understood what was expected from them. Otherresponsibilities included grading assignments, taking care of conflicts, assisting with writtenreports, PowerPoint presentations, and posters. Another aspect of the ecology position was tohelp students out in the field gathering data.

Earth Science Instructor for 8 and 9 Grade Students. Responsibilities included daily instructionin earth science concepts along with curriculum development of course content. Acted as amentor for students and encouraged them to continue to take math and science throughout highschool and into higher education.
