I was part of the technical unit responsible for bridging the gap between programme development and programme operations while tying in programme quality. My role required knowledge of industry specific standards, an ability to innovate and a technical ability necessary to translate thoughts and ideas into practical solutions to real world problems. • I designed WASH/WSSH/Infrastructure projects that are appropriate and relevant to the context and prevailing needs while incorporating innovation and sustainability.

South West And Jubaland States, Somalia

Managed a team of WASH and Infrastructure Engineers, Officers and Project assistants responsible for the implementation and providing technical support to projects in the southern Somalia programme of World Vision International. I had overall oversight of projects designed to bring water, sanitation, hygiene and improved infrastructure to internally displaced people and vulnerable host communities in a region recovering from the effects of armed conflict, natural disasters (famine and floods) and political instability.

Malakal, South Sudan

Managed WASH projects responsible for provision of water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure for vulnerable and displaced communities funded by GAC, UNICEF, USAID, DFID and DFAT. Designed and conducted construction supervision of general infrastructure and WASH facilities that included treatment plants, reticulation networks, health facilities, education facilities and household, communal and institutional latrines, irrigation infrastructure and solar powered systems. Developed technical engineering resources (e.g. strategic framework, standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals) to guide World Vision’s WASH Infrastructure interventions, drawing from international best practices, along with field specific observations.

Upper Nile, South Sudan

As the engineer responsible for improving water, sanitation and for over 50,000 internally displaced people (IDPs), I worked on developing appropriate promotion methods, implementation strategies, infrastructure designs (water treatment plants and emergency latrines) and construction at IDP sites. This required extensive collaboration with the WASH Cluster and the government officials to revise existing designs and to select the most suitable construction methods and materials.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Reporting to the Programmes Manager, responsible for leading teams in the assessment, design and rehabilitation/upgrading of sanitation infrastructure in 60 urban schools, in Bulawayo. Liaison with the local authority (City of Bulawayo) and central government (relevant line ministries), development of a rehabilitation strategy, managing various contractors appointed for the rehabilitation work. Responsible for training and leading Field Officers and Field Workers in engineering feasibility and topographical surveys and the design of sand river water abstraction systems. Leading teams in the assessment of boreholes so as to determine the groundwater potential for Bulawayo. Development of an assessment strategy. Input of data into GIS software (ArcGIS and Google Earth) and analysis. Consolidation of borehole data from the City of Bulawayo, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority and other stakeholders. I also led the engineering survey and design of small dams, liquid retaining structures and small scale water supply projects in AutoCAD Civil 3D. I was also responsible for supervision of all construction work.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Part of a consortium of three organisations responsible for implementing an $8 million urban WASH project responsible for rehabilitation of the City of Bulawayo sewer and water infrastructure. Led a team of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) analysts, engineers, and technicians in the development of a GIS based Utility Information Management System for the City of Bulawayo. Successfully recommended development of a GIS based utility management information system (UMIS) for the city of Bulawayo to help in management of water and sewer infrastructure for the city of close to 1 million residents.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

• Trained and led Field Workers in engineering feasibility and topographical surveys and the design of sand river water abstraction systems. • Produced feasibility and technical survey reports. Led the identification and assessment of sand river water harvesting sites (sand dams). • Led the technical team in carrying out topographical surveys, soil tests, sediment analysis and the design of sand river water harvesting systems. • Produced designs and technical drawings in AutoCAD for the construction of sand water abstraction systems (sand-abstraction systems) and sand river water harvesting systems (sand dams). • Provided technical support to the sand dam construction team from setting out, dam wall alignment, checking foundation adequacy and ensuring adherence to standards during all phases of construction.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

• Led in research on feasibility of using Differential GPS units to carry out topographical surveys along ephemeral river channels in Zimbabwe.• Carried out sediment analysis to determine geomorphological parameters of sand river alluvial aquifers as part of design of shallow groundwater extraction systems.• Installed groundwater level monitoring equipment, downloaded periodic data and carried out preliminary analysis on seasonal variation of groundwater levels.• Assisted in the development of improved hand pumps and operating manuals. Developed manuals and catalogued the historical development of the pumps to facilitate registration with the government of Zimbabwe.• Carried out water quality testing using portable water testing kits. Pioneered testing for heavy metals using a Wagtech Metalyser heavy metals analysis kit.

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Employed by the Bulawayo Polytechnic as a part-time lecturer in GIS and Remote Sensing for their Bachelor of Technology Programme in Civil Engineering. Responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate classes in GIS, remote sensing and general mapping. Responsible for creating daily lesson plans and learning activities and delivered high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations and independent practice using a variety of proven methods.
