During my observership at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, I worked closely with the clinical pharmacy team. I actively participated in the prescription audit team, identifying and addressing errors under the guidance of my superiors. In the antimicrobial stewardship program, I learned how to document days of therapy (DOT), collect case data, report laboratory values and culture results, and assess whether antibiotics were administered empirically, definitively, or for surgical prophylaxis. Based on these evaluations, strategies were implemented for de-escalating antibiotics to optimize treatment outcomes and minimize unnecessary antimicrobial use. My experience in the chemotherapy admixing unit included observing the preparation of chemotherapy drug dilutions, assisting with labelling, and diluting concentrated electrolytes. I also gained knowledge about various types of cancer affecting patients. Moreover, I attended weekly educational sessions and had the opportunity to present in one of these sessions, which enhanced my understanding of clinical pharmacy practices and enriched my learning experience.
