Worked over 41 years in various Foundry Engineering responsibilities. My last 7 years were definitely rewarding being part of the team that turned Grede St. Cloud Foundry into a profitable foundry. When I arrived St. Cloud's their average molds per hour on their large 2070 Disamatic molding machine was approximately 135-140 (mph) molds per hour. My first year with Grede as a Corporate Engineer required traveling to several of their foundry locations to implement scrap reductions and improve productivity. Within 2 years of joining Grede I was able to change the gating designs at St. Cloud to allow shorter pour times without affecting casting quality or internal foundry scrap levels. By working together with maintenance and foundry supervisors the gating changes allowed them to make machine adjustments to more than double the (mph) average. This virtually reduced most overtime in molding at the time and improved overall profitability.
