Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year.Assist-MD was our contribution to the surgical field. It is a Computer Vision System that would assist surgeons with general surgery procedures and generate post surgical reports. This allows Surgeons to quickly move from surgery to surgery without having to invest time into paperwork, as well as keep a record of the events during the surgery.I originally developed the data pipeline from iOS devices to AWS servers. This was done in the Swift programming language and utilized peripheral devices on the iPhone to stream data to the servers. I then later worked on the Javascript website and helped integrate a PostGreSQL database into the website, in order to create a database of all hospitals and surgeons who would use the platform. This also allowed us to store all the surgery data for later review.Assist-MD would go on to win 2nd place at the UCSB Computer Science Summit.
