Based in Ahmedabad, Studio Inkling is a design firm that deals in architecture, urban conservation and documentation, heritage conservation. We take a research-based approach in which the idea of emotional response takes the center stage. We indulge in methods such as space syntax and embodied cognition, which is in sync with the kind of research I am doing with the universities with which am associated with. As a part of the Directed Research Program at CEPT University, I run my research cell titled “Perception in Architecture and Spaces - An embodied and multi-sensory approach”: The focus of this research cell is to understand the role that embodied cognition plays in perception and experience of lived spaces. The research has its theoretical backdrop in the overlap of neuroscience, phenomenology and ethnography. Currently, two students of final year are enrolled and assisting in this project.

As a part of the “working group” at the Common Foundation Program (CFP), I conceptualized and taught the following courses to the first-year students of architecture, urban design, Interior design, and architectural product design. Some of these courses have been adopted by other universities and institutes as a part of their own curriculum as a part of FSDC program run by CEPT University.1. Tackling a designing problem2. In 2015, IDEA (Institute of Design, Environment and Architecture) made a major pedagogical change when it shifted from a normal (parallel) method of teaching to module-based method of teaching. As a part of the team that worked on this, I worked on formulating the structure of the overall pedagogy as well as designing individual modules of “Design process”, “Theory” and “Design Studio” for the first and second year. I also taught theory courses on Islamic Architecture and studios on Material and Light, Foundation Studios and Urban Design Studios.
