Dr. Green received a BA degree from Dillard in 1961 and a Ph.D in pharmacology from Howard University in 1972, from which he also received the Distinguished Ph.D. Award in 1997.He retired from the Federal Government in 1996 after serving 30+ years, 29 of which was with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the remainder at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). HIs last six years were as a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES). At FDA he served as Director Division of Toxicological Research, Associate Director of Laboratory Investigations, Chief Whole Animal Toxicology Branch and Chief Genetic Toxicology Branch. He has over 70 scientific publications and has expertise in systemic toxicology related to food additives and contaminants, genetic toxicology and alternatives to animals in toxicology. During his career he was the recipient of numerous awards, the most notable of which is the Award of Merit, which is the highest honor the FDA can bestow on an employee. He is especially proud of having received the Toxicologists of African Origin Legacy Award in 2011. At EPA he served as Chief and Acting Chief Toxicology Branch and Epidemiology Branch, respectively. After retiring from FDA he worked at Covance Laboratories of Vienna VA as Director of Toxicology and most recently at Howard University (part-time), as Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Director of Graduate Studies. He retired from Howard in May 2012 but maintains an Adjunct Associate Professorship with the Department of Pharmacology. He has served on numerous scientific Boards and Committees, some of which are the National Academy of Sciences, National Institutes of Health, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and is currently serving as a member of the EPA's Human Studies Review Board. He holds membership in the Society of Toxicology, Association of Government Toxicologists, Environmental Mutagen Society, Society for In Vitro Biology and Organization of Black Scientists.
