I am an experienced Senior Executive and Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel who began my career practicing commercial litigation at a boutique law firm in Los Angeles, California. After a short stint there, I relocated to the Midwest, where I landed an in-house position as corporate counsel for IAA. IAA was a small publicly traded company (NASDAQ) with approximately 50 locations across the U.S. and a burgeoning e-commerce auction platform. I was a novice at the in-house practice and general corporate and securities law. Nonetheless, with the departure of the General Counsel, I quickly assumed the role of general counsel and managed all legal aspects of the company. It was a challenge, but I thrive in challenging environments. I surrounded myself with experienced legal mentors, studied furiously to educate myself on unfamiliar areas of law and traveled extensively with other IAA leaders to learn our business and develop my executive leadership skills. I was recognized for the value I added to the team. I earned several promotions and was chosen to lead functions beyond the legal department. The company invested in my further education, sending me to Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management where I earned a master’s in business administration while also serving as General Counsel. The investment paid off. I am now well prepared to assume another chief legal officer role or other business role in a senior level executive position.
