I am a Principal at Hamish.Fletcher Lawyers (HFL) and Special Counsel at Oceanlaw New Zealand. (HFL and Oceanlaw are co-located distinct entities with a Partner in common.) At HFL, my practice areas focus on Dispute Resolution, Civil Litigation and Health and Safety Law. Oceanlaw is New Zealand's only specialist marine law firm. I have particular expertise in maritime regulatory law (including health and safety) and wet shipping (intervention powers). I bring a wealth of expertise from my previous roles as Chief Legal Advisor at both WorkSafe New Zealand and Fire and Emergency New Zealand, as well as Legal Manager at Maritime New Zealand, and Legal Counsel roles at Crown Law (where I specialised in tax, and related public law, litigation). I have worked on several matters of national significance for New Zealand: the Whakaari – White Island prosecution, mandatory COVID-19 testing and vaccination for firefighters, and the MV Rena oil spill.
