OVERVIEWThe ARK Initiative wishes to inspire designers, entrepreneurs and governments to challenge outmoded disaster preparedness strategies.Due to climate change, we witness a constant increase in the occurrence of natural disasters that put millions of lives at risk throughout the world. Recent technological advancements have allowed us to better understand and anticipate natural disaster events. As scientists study these natural phenomena and analyze the associated data, they are drawing more insightful conclusions and sharing them with the rest of the world, especially with disaster management organizations. In the field of disaster management, full scale safety programs and security systems are constantly being adjusted and updated with the aim of coping better with future natural disasters. Despite this, there is still a high percentage of the population who live in constant danger from emerging hazards - social, political or financial.I believe that through available technologies and the substantial experience and data that have been accumulated for the past few decades, we can create a defensive system that can be both universal and cost effective. This system can be implemented and mass produced on a national level or applied locally, even through a DIY approach that will empower individuals and groups to take charge of their safety and destiny.
