Since going back to obtain a dual master’s degree in Creative Writing and English, I have had the wonderful opportunity to not only revitalize my passion for art and community but to help nourish others to find theirs as well. After over four years of teaching experience at the high school, university, and volunteer levels, I have honed my skills in creative solutions, writing abilities, and instruction. During my time as a graduate student, I had the opportunity to teach an English 100 class of my own design. While teaching the course, I applied for and was accepted to lead my own IRB-certified research project that focused on the positive effects pop culture and genre have on the first-year composition classroom while exploring how engaging students through a common discourse that is relatable and comfortable can aid in their writing and composition progression. Since graduating, I was hired as a lecturer at Chapman University to teach two, English 200-level courses, titled “Composing the Self,” and one “Introduction to Creative Writing” class in the English Department. In conjunction with my teaching pursuits, I am constantly working on creative projects. Recently, a poem titled “She’d thought she’d like it,” was published in Cathexis Northwest Press as well as another tribute to my late grandmother titled, “Pulling Weeds,” published by Ariel Publishing in the Fall of 2022. I also have my first short story set for publication during the Fall of 2023 in the literary journal, Beyond Queer Words. During the two last years, I had the amazing opportunity to work as a technical Advisor on the new television series, All-American: Homecoming, which rose to number three on Netflix’s Top Ten TV Shoes in July of 2022. Coming from a high-performance, fast-paced, technology background after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Television, Film, and New Media, I honed my skills in managing projects and people with swift communication and creative solutions while working as a Marketing Communication Specialist at Cisco Systems. While working at Cisco, I also co-created the television series, Tennis Runway, after filming a pilot that I pitched to The Tennis Channel. During that time, I found funding, acquired clothing from over 15 apparel companies, wrote scripts, and co-produced the project. In this process, I had to go above and beyond to meet all deadlines in preparation for the series airdate. In conjunction, I built and managed multiple websites and social media platforms to create an unstoppable presence online.
