Design Spread Spectrum Radio Ethernet Radio, taking advantage of backplane Ethernet connectivity found in 2070 Traffic Controller as detailed in CALTRANS TEES. Developed 2070-6E serial Ethernet communication module, to connect legacy 2070 controllers to interface with Traffic Based LAN networks.Developed 900MHz Spread Spectrum Radio, designed to replace legacy FSK modems in CALTRANS 2070 Traffic Controller applications. The design implemented two different configurations of the radio, including the option to add Internet Protocol or IP-Radio (PCB layout common to both). The programmable logic was designed to route serial and/or IP data, depending on personality configuration. This approach reduced manufacturing cost, requiring only one PCB and a 98% common component configuration between models. The GDI 2070-6W has passed CALTRANS lab for testing and evaluation, and is listed in the Qualified Purchase List (QPL).

In 2006 researched developing PCI104 Mezzanine upgrade to replace ISA bus embedded microprocessor. Previous efforts include designing digital communications interface for Quintron’s fourth generation digital communications system. Design makes extensive use of Altera 1K SRAM based programmable logic, to perform high-speed voice path digital analysis and processing in 16-bit linear, and 8-bit (µ-law 255 compressed) formats. Embedded interface microprocessor is a ZFx86, based on ISA bus mezzanine architecture.

Reno, Nevada Area (Parent Company Relocated Coral Springs, Fl)

Developed architecture to store uncompressed HDTV video data to disk arrays, using RAID 3 configuration for automatic failed drive data restore. Design included the development of an SDRAM controller (PLD State Machine), and a combined burst engine to meet targeted data rate. Other efforts included, design modification to an existing Hi Def Video SCSI host interface, to transfer video images formatted in 1556 x 2048 pixels (VHDL using WARP).

Directed the development of Quintron’s "Second & Third Generation” digital communication systems, and designed associated Enhanced Operator Communications Panel Interface (PCM digital carrier based topology, implemented with complex programmable logic). Manage, and directing hardware and software design engineering staff, in all Quintron “Product Development” efforts. Additional responsibilities include the development of the secure communications -- fiber-optic interface, and Windows NT computer network System Administration.

Santa Barbara, California Area

As a consultant and lead electronic engineer, assigned responsibilities included conceptualization, design, and integration of a Teleoperated Hazardous Material Handling System for the Nevada Test Site. Project’s electronic design leadership became a key role, which entailed the design of the Operator’s Control Station, and Remote Operated Vehicle’s (ROV) electronic control package. Telemetry subsystem used Spread Spectrum radio technology, and video transmission equipment. Other responsibilities included the development and presentation of Preliminary and Final Design reviews. Final responsibilities included generating, and leading Final Acceptance Test at the Nevada Test Site, on-site training, and the O&M Manual’s technical writing, and computer graphic illustration.

Responsible for direction and implementation of all design engineering development programs, task, and support requirements. Chief Project Engineer and System Architect for Quintron's Digital Integrated Communications Electronic Systems (DICES II) development program. DICES II is an embedded (VMEbus architecture, using 68010 CPUs) communications system, based on T1 digital carrier topology and PCM principles. Related architectural designs include the development of VMEbus Slave interface circuitry, used by all Quintron developed DICES modules, incorporated with Erasable Programmable Logic Devices (EPLD) technology. Additional EPLD designs include: state machines, digital signal processing, and time division multiplexing control.

Developed Half Height Computer Tape Streamer, utilizing Gate Array architecture, and surface mount technology. Also headed a special OEM project team, in the development of IBM’s PC Tape Streamer.

Designed the electronics and computer interfaces, in Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) Systems for NMOS wafer development. Also co-inventor, and patent holder, of the Vacuum Low Temperature Doped Oxide (VLTO) wafer processing system.

Responsible engineer in development of an Intelligent (Z80 microprocessor) Attendant Console, controlling a Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX) system. Previous positions include Senior Engineering Technician, and Assistant Lead Technician. Engineering Technician responsibilities were analogous to Assistant Engineer position. Assistant Lead Technician responsibilities included troubleshooting problematic failed PABX PCAs, failure analysis of PCAs from customer systems, and technician training.
