About Signe Pedersen
Passionate co-design specialist working on collaboratively creating tomorrow’s innovative solutions together with users and other stakeholders! Currently I am working on a research project supported by the Danish Innovation Foundation striving to prevent hospitalisation of elderly people with dementia living in nursing homes by designing an entire system of citizens, loved ones, nursing home staff, GPs, hospital staff, sensor-technologies, big data and apps.I believe that not only end-users but actors from the entire eco-system or network should be involved in co-creating new products, services and systems. Instead of designing objects we should be designing networks of people, products, and services to build a sustainable society and future. During my experience as a design engineer and as a researcher (e.g. as part of my PhD), I have staged and facilitated interactions and co-design activities with numerous actors ranging from patients, doctors, nurses, NGOs, major companies and governmental entities. Prototypes, sketches and other materiality such as design games are to me central elements in co-design as they support mutual learning and spark fruitful negotiation. The results of these learning and negotiation processes have been materialized in products, services and systems such as: improved cooking stoves for women in Nepal, refugee shelters, apps for stroke-patients and neurologists and insulin product service systems in India. Being a designer and a researcher I enjoy combining the practical ‘craft’ of staging and facilitating design processes, with the analytical reflections on my work and the opportunity to educate students to be skilled designers and researchers. Specialties: User-centred design, Participatory Design, co-design, co-creation, staging, facilitation and synthesis, gathering user-insights
Listed skills include User Centered Design, Concept Development, Research, Sustainability, and 20 others.

Current
Co-Founder, Project Developer And Project Manager Of The Smoke-Project
CurrentProject developer and project manager of the SMOKE-project (Sustainable Management Of Kitchen Environments) in Nepal.Rural Kitchen Environments in Nepal offers a lot of room for improve-ment in terms of hygienic cooking practices and health promoting equipment. During 2008 and 2009 I developed the fuel-efficient wood-fired cooking stove, Sapana Stove, designed to improve the Rural Kitchen Environments of Nepal. The challenge was to design a functional product to be used in a different context and culture with very alternative cooking practices and mind-sets. Also a system of advocacy, awareness raising and private sector development is currently being developed to support the sustainability of the project. My reflective and empathic personality was key in designing this type of product and project, and I truly enjoy working in cross-disciplinary teams towards a shared goal.Main tasks: Design of new improved cooking stove, Project Management, Strategy Development
