I founded Point dancestudios in Akureyri Iceland when I was 22 years old. It had always been a dream of mine to run my own company and for the 9 years I was running it, it certainly was a dream. I thought kids from 4 years of age to 50 - mainly jazz blended with contemporary and ballet techniques. I started out only me and one other teacher, teaching 90 students but it developed to 12 employees teaching 420 students. It had always been a dream of mine to run my own company and for the 9 years I was running it, it certainly was a dream. I thought kids from 4 years of age to 50 - mainly jazz blended with contemporary and ballet techniques. I started out only me and one other teacher, teaching 90 students but it developed to 12 employees teaching 420 students. I put on a massive show at the end of spring term every year where the students all got their costumes (home made by me, my mom and my sister), got a professional lighting designer and sound designer, video artist to create a video files that would fit the chosen theme, so the show would look as professional as possible for my students. It was held in Hof Culture house in Akureyri and we would usually have 3-4 sold out shows. What I learned from this 9 years of running the studio is most importantly how to listen. Listen to the kids, the parents, my staff and my heart. Every individual has their own story and as a teacher you have to respect every child. I also got great experience of organizing big events and work in a highly creative environment. Multitasking is also something I´ve become great at. Show less
