Gerson Silva is a building manager at the Health Science Center at Temple University. His roles include troubleshooting, customer care, breaking down/setting up events, and drinking a substantial amount of coffee to get him through his opening shifts. As a fitness enthusiast, he jumped at the opportunity to work for their recreation center, a year and a half later he was promoted to the building manager and has mourned the loss of sporadic gym lifts ever since. Being the first person in his family to attend college has been a great honor for him but also has been a great struggle. Switching majors four times, failing two of them, facing potential academic probation, and almost losing his scholarship; the road to a degree has not been easy by the slightest sense. But if being raised by a single mother has taught him anything, it’s that you never quit even if you’re in the last place, you finish what you started. Six years later, Gerson is finishing up his last semester of Undergrad. Every team needs someone selfless, passionate, empathetic, and hardworking. Many people nowadays are concerned about personal victories and personal successes, these can make a man prideful and selfish. Gerson will make sure to prioritize the well-being of the organization, clients, and publics. That way everyone person is lifted and everyone can say they had a part in the organization’s success. Gerson is fearless when it comes to asking for help, lack of knowledge can always be fixed by raising your hand. Finally, Gerson loves brainstorming ideas, whatever you need Gerson can come up with creative ideas to help you achieve your goals. Nothing has influenced Gerson more than his Christian faith. Constantly being challenged to change his character has been the hardest but greatest victory. Trading in anger for peace, pride for humility, and selfishness for selflessness; Gerson would be completely different if his faith were not in his life. When Gerson is not working or doing schoolwork, he enjoys being physically active. Some of his favorite activities include weightlifting, biking, ultimate frisbee, and pretending as he can dance. He also enjoys eating and trying new food, fun fact Gerson once ate a nine-patty cheeseburger and lived to tell the story. Some other hobbies include thrifting, arts and crafts, and debating over meaningless topics. Whether you like him or not, Gerson is someone you can always count on to be his authentic self and that is all you can ask of someone.
