In this lead teaching role, I collaborated with a team of teachers, school counselors, and learning specialists to create and deliver exceptional mathematics, language arts, and social studies curriculum. In addition, I offered informative opportunities for parents and family members to gain a deeper appreciation of the significance and innovation behind "new math."

In my initial two years as a lead teacher, I created and implemented comprehensive 5th-grade curricula that integrated mathematics, reading, writing, and social studies, with a central focus on cultivating socially conscious and exceptionally skilled global citizens. I developed a school-wide planner system, provided essential daily reading guidance to second-grade students, and assumed the role of Curriculum Coordinator for the Virginia Association of Independent Schools during an accreditation year.

In this 5th-grade classroom, I systematically expanded my teaching skills, eventually assuming the role of the lead instructor by the end of the school year. Concurrently, I conducted Master's level research to delve into the factors affecting student engagement. My findings revealed that the most pivotal factor influencing participation in a given class was homework completion. In essence, students who completed their homework were well-prepared for class, fostering their enthusiasm for learning. I apply this insight in my current teaching approach by assigning purposeful homework that all students can autonomously complete. Moreover, I create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable bringing their questions and concerns to class the following day if they are unable to complete their homework.

In this laboratory setting, our focus centered on assessing individuals' cognitive processes related to food. Our findings indicated that a brief mindfulness cognitive training proved beneficial for individuals with concerns about their eating habits or weight. I apply the insights gained from this research to my teaching approach by encouraging students to mathematically analyze their emotional responses to various experiences, thereby fostering mindfulness practices among them.

During my summer internship, I showcased attention to detail by assuming the primary responsibility of meticulously reviewing data for consistency. Additionally, I had the privilege of participating in child observations and engaging in conversations with families.
