Post Doctoral Scientist In The Field Of Food TechnologyUniversità Degli Studi Di Milano Aug 2016 - Jun 2021Milano, ItaliaThe research project aims at exploiting sensing techniques, combined with multivariate data analysis, to monitor and optimize the production processes and quality of food, as well as to assess their real shelf life, thus contributing in safety, sustainability and security challenges.The major sensing techniques investigated in this project will be: Near Infrared Spectroscopy (12,500-4,000 cm-1); Mid Infrared Spectroscopy (4,000 – 400 cm-1); e-eye, i.e. computer vision systems; e-nose and e-tongue.The practical feasibility of the proposed approach will be tested on animal food products and the related production systems. These products are controversial: they have a great nutritional value, but they are responsible for high environmental impact. Thus, the monitoring of their production and required quality traits, as well as the implementation of analytical instrumentations directly in site, could be convenient for food industries, leading to an optimized use of energy, time and raw materials. Moreover, the name of the game is the opportunity of deeply studying the food quality traits and their interactions thanks to the combination of sensing techniques and multivariate analysis of the collected data.

ResearcherFondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Jan 2014 - Nov 2015Milano, ItaliaThe Foundation is now working on a research project entitled Laboratorio Expo, specifically focusing on issues related to the themes of the Universal Exposition to be held in Milan from May 2015, i.e. Feeding the Planet. Energy for life. By involving Milan’s Universities and around 50 international research centres, the project aims at exploring the economic, anthropological and sociological aspects of a broad range of topics within this framework.Particularly, Laboratorio Expo will focus on concepts of agriculture and nutrition, given their relevance for the themes of EXPO Milano 2015. My contribution within this project is focused on both research and dissemination activities carried out with the intent of providing and sharing useful insights on these topics, raising awareness and launching long lasting dialogue amongst academia, institutions and civil society.
