I am a strong willed individual always seeking a challenge and to learn something new. I graduated magna cum laude with three majors - Political Science, Ethnic Studies, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Brown University. Mature, responsible, and goal oriented are only a few words that describe who I am. I strive to be equitable and inclusive and foster the same in every space I touch. To me, diversity, equity, and inclusion means questioning the status quo and taking action to expose white supremacy and dismantle systems of oppression. I strive to be a leader in creating spaces for dialogue that actively work to eradicate bias, discrimination, and marginalization. The fear of someone saying NO to something we want to ask for is futile. If we don’t ask it will always be a NO. The baseline is NO, the opportunity in asking is to change our assumed NO to a YES. So embrace making the ask. I still get nervous even now making the ask and I have an easier time asking for some things than others. I still often question whether or not I actually need what I’m asking for or if I deserve the YES but I remind myself that I can ask for things that I may simply want and the worst that can happen is someone says NO. If we don’t ask it will always be a NO, so why not embrace the opportunity of getting the YES! Interested in knowing how I got to this point? Message me and I can tell you more. Fun fact: For four years I was an active member, vocalist, and president of the first ever Mariachi Band in Rhode Island, Mariachi de Brown. I had the pleasure of performing all over the state sharing my love for mariachi music, Mexican culture, and musical traditions.

Student InternKids In Need Of Defense (Kind) Jan 2016 - May 2017Providence, Rhode Island AreaThanks to a close friend I had the opportunity to begin to work with KIND as an interpreter in mid January 2016. After a first session I spoke with the attorney I worked with about my interest in immigration law. I have had an interest in immigration reform, immigrant rights, and public policy since I was young. The focus of the organization is the pro-bono representation of recent Central American unaccompanied child minor migrants. Through this internship I was able to gain hands on experience in the field – translating during client meetings, preparing immigration forms, sitting in on court hearings, and serving as a translator for client appointments at US Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS). -
