About Simantini Shinde
A Research Scientist, transitioning to Data Science with a completed Data Science Bootcamp, I have a strong background in data engineering, data analysis, machine learning, and programming. With expertise in Python and SQL, I excel in cleaning and transforming data, creating impactful visualizations, and developing data science pipelines. I have also developed skills in Geodata (GIS), predictive analysis, statistical analysis, team communication and public speaking. My experience also, includes working with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, and Keras to build predictive models and extract valuable insights. My latest project was a multi-agent Reinforcement Learning model trained to rescue victims during a disaster, and with a colleague, we expand this project for computer vision and the use of drones. Being an Engineer and a former Research Scientist, I saw how useful the application of data science, engineering and analysis is in developing solutions which have high impact on daily life. And with more experience and more exposure to data science, I moved towards solving data-oriented problems and not theme-oriented problems. My interests are three folded, one, learning and knowing the techniques of data science, engineering and programming; and second, applying these techniques to saving lives, sustainability, increasing accessibility and reach and improving efficiency; and third applying my knowledge and experience in civil engineering and hazard and risk science to every-day use cases. Currently I am looking for Data Science related roles and also, to connect with like-minded people who use data to solve real-world problems.
Listed skills include Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Office, Project Management, and 40 others.

Simantini Shinde work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Risk Data Analyst
• Conducted data mining, cleaning, and analysis on a 25 GB unstructured Japanese census dataset, while developing an exposure model for 47 regions of Japan, utilized by disaster managers for risk-loss analysis.• Streamlined the existing Pandas-based exposure model by implementing ETL pipelines and transitioning to a SQL-based system; a 95% increase in model run-time efficiency was achieved.• Employed web scraping tools like Selenium and Beautiful Soup in Python to extract 15 GB of relevant data; the automation reduced manual effort and time consumption to less than one minute. • Worked collaboratively in an Agile team environment, utilizing Git for version control. Developed strong self-management and group-working skills, contributing to efficient project execution.
Research Intern
• Identified feature correlations and applied multiple machine learning techniques to achieve a 90% accuracy rate in predicting building damage probabilities; results presented to Collaborators in South America, leading to the expansion of the research proposal.• Conducted extensive literature analysis on multi-risk assessment (Floods, Tsunamis, Earthquakes, Ash-Falls, Debri Flows).• Realized my interest and skill for programming in Python and worked with Jupyter Notebooks in deriving patterns between the data collected and literature.• Mapped multi-hazard building schemas to engineering based taxonomic characters to develop exposure uncertainty models used by South American Researchers in assessing multi-hazard risk.• Successfully submitted deliverables on influence of building characteristics of multi-hazard exposure on building damage and economic losses.
Design Engineer Consultant
• Designed and delivery end-to-end shoring systems projects all over India.• Due to my analytical skills and quick learning ability shown during the Internship period in the first 2 months, I was hired full time as a Design Engineer.• Applied and improved my analytical skills further, with finding engineering solutions to diverse data and complex site setup; notably reducing average construction time and resource utilization by 20%. • Due to my problem solving personality, I was able to resolve design and on-site conflicts and issues while providing creative and efficient solutions.• Developed the ability to negotiate a good balance between engineering or design capacities, client requirements.• With my interaction to a diverse set of people from Government Offices to Sub-Contractors, developed an ability to understand different viewpoints and tailor messages accordingly.
