Currently: Staff SWE/ Engineering Lead at PlusPlus.Previously: Technical Instructor & SWE/Tech Lead at Twitter. I was the TL for the @university technical education program for engineers at Twitter. This involves teaching courses on core technologies, mentoring instructors managing internal technical education + working on internal tools for developers. HISTORY: Somewhere back in the dim mists of history I recall writing desktop applications for a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary. VB 5.0 and Borland's Delphi figure large in those memories - but I've mostly suppressed them.After that it was web development. I'd done a little before (Perl and C CGI scripts) but I discovered PHP and it was good. I wrote my own PEAR based framework back when PHP 4.1 was cool and new, then migrated to PHP frameworks like Zend Framework, Code Igniter and so on. Eventually I discovered Python and ended up doing Django dev for several years - mostly CRUD/CMS websites but some data mining/warehousing and a RESTful service or two.Through it all I had lots of front end web development experience as well - Javascript and the DOM and early frameworks like Scriptaculous/Prototype, a little sprinkling of Mochikit and lots of JQuery and JQueryUI. I've used lots of Javascript API's (various Google API's for charting, mapping, etc) and a half a dozen CSS frameworks like YUI, Blueprint, and so on. Somewhere along the way I became a Javascript language lawyer (though I've never really deeply enjoyed it the way I do Python) and the standards compliant HTML and CSS guy for a couple projects. And of course as is the way of web developers everywhere I ended up with a fair amount of database experience.As an instructor at Marakana I leveraged my Python expertise and taught at many tech giants (Intel, Facebook, Cisco, Motorola) and had students from Boeing, Sandia Labs, the Federal Reserve and many other venerable institutions and corporations come take my classes. Marakana was acquired by Twitter and there I was a Technical Instructor teaching engineers and helping build a culture of learning by promoting courses, documentation, mentoring and other forms of peer-to-peer knowledge transfer. At various times I branched out to work as pure SWE for a quarter or two and generally worked on internal developer tools/platforms as part of the Engineering Effectiveness org. I also supported the python community in the bay area by co-organizing SF Python Meetup for about 10 years (100s of meetups and dozens of tutorials offered) and co-organized the first 3 PyBay conferences.
