“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”- Henry Wadsworth LongfellowMy father introduced me to this quote, and it never ceases to inspire me every time I quietly rehearse it in my mind during situations when “the going gets tough and the tough get going.”My tenacity, along with curiosity, has propelled me to explore different opportunities for intellectual stimulation as well as professional growth.I started off my career as a journalist, which resulted in an exciting nine month-long journey where I produced short documentaries for a local news channel. Thereafter, I channeled my transferable skills from journalism to a not-for-profit organization where I co-facilitated different projects ranging from organizing training sessions to implementing marketing strategies to facilitating workshops for diverse clients. Subsequently, in the year 2014, I decided to expand my horizons, and bring a fresh perspective to my career goals. I chose to study law. The research, interviewing, and writing skills I had acquired during my professional years in journalism and marketing/communications, have enabled me to effectively adapt and prepare for the unique challenges inherent in the legal profession. The study of law has helped me appreciate the role of the judiciary to mete out justice to vulnerable sections of the society, while simultaneously balancing competing rights within the common-law legal system.
