About Simon Arunga

I graduated as a medical doctor in Uganda in 2006 and went on to work for 3 years in rural Uganda as a district coordinator for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV. The best part of my undergraduate journey was to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. He has guided my path since then. In 2014, I graduated as an Ophthalmologist and Fellow of the College of Ophthalmology for East Central and Southern Africa. I stayed on as Clinical Lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. In 2020, I graduated with a PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I continue to participate in research and mentorship with Mbarara University of Science and Technology and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine looking at how to prevent blindness caused by Infectious Keratitis in Uganda. In 2020, I started Dr Arunga's Eye Hospital (https://drarungaseyehospital.com/ ) a social enterprise eye health facility to bring advanced ophthalmic care to my people in Mbarara, rural South western Uganda and provide mid cadre eye health training.
