About Simon Barnes
I began my career as a scientist at Cambridge and became fascinated with how science becomes business. I joined the venture capital industry in 1998 and have operated in and around it for 25 years focused primarily on biotechnology. For the past 18 years I have been a Managing Partner at Circadia Ventures. I have spent time on the faculty of business schools including Imperial College London and latterly Warwick Business School in the UK. I authored 'Raising Venture Capital' (Wiley & Sons, 2006) with Rupert Pearce and 'Building Value: The Business of Venture Capital' (Wiley & Sons, 2025). I have served as a director on the boards of venture backed businesses in the US, UK and EU becoming familiar with board dynamics, fund raising and exits across a variety of cultures.
