Simon Bradbury joined Pöyry in 2006 and is a Senior Principal with over 20 years of experience in the energy sector. His areas of expertise include wholesale energy sector policy, regulation and market design. Simon has supported Ministries, regulators, trade associations and commercial players in relation to a range of aspects electricity market design, as efforts are made to adapt arrangements in the context of the decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitalisation of the energy sector. Recently, Simon has supported Energy Systems Catapult to develop a potential framework for future electricity market design in the rapidly evolving sector. He has also been leading work with a range of stakeholders on hybrid HVDC solutions to deliver offshore wind connections and interconnection capabilities. He is also supporting market design review processes in several jurisdictions to help their adaptation to current and forthcoming challenges as systems evolve.Simon applied his market design experience in the role of project manager for the development of market rules for a new spot electricity market for Oman. He supported UK government during the development of the Electricity Market Reform package and, subsequently, the evaluation of the first round of operation of the capacity market. Linked to this, he also leads on much of Pöyry’s policy and commercial work relating to capacity adequacy measures in European electricity markets. Before joining Pöyry, Simon worked for the GB energy regulator, Ofgem, from 2000 to 2006, where he was latterly a Senior Manager in the Wholesale Markets team.
