Project Architect leading various cultural projects including:Whitworth Art Gallery Extension, ManchesterExtensive renovation, including the addition of two extensions to the rear of the existing 19th-century building. The two new wings double the gallery, learning and storage zones of the 125-year-old gallery, which is part of the University of Manchester. A new study centre is located adjacent to the collection storage area in the basement, and is connected to a further learning centre housed in the lower floor of the neighbouring wing. A glass promenade, used as a gallery space for landscape and large-scale sculptural works, provides a ground-floor link to a glazed cafe with views of the adjoining park. The project was awarded a RIBA National Award, was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize and the Museum won Museum of the Year 2015.V&A, Medieval & Renaissance Galleries, LondonThe RIBA award winning £30m development of the V&A Medieval & Renaissance Galleries, reconfigured the existing 1909 Aston Webb architecture to create ten linked galleries. The new design includes a new central orientation hub with floating staircase and lift which, for the first time, links all six levels of the museum, including three floors of the Medieval and Renaissance galleries. Working closely with V&A curators beautiful and innovative new displays place objects within their original social and cultural context. In a gallery of religious artworks, light filters through translucent onyx window screens.Through examination of the characteristics of the existing building fabric, together with an alternative approach to the environmental brief, humidification and cooling were eliminated. In this,the V&A is pioneering and the project is a test-bed for museums elsewhere.
