My role as the Quantity Surveyor for the Nuneaton remodeling project included cost control, procurement and evaluation of individual projects, managing the budget, change control, monitoring commercial performance and programme and at all times protecting the interests of the company.I was dealing with sub-contractors on a day to day basis and my duties involved the full life of the sub-contracts from the initial enquiry, processing the payments, to agreeing the final account.

Working in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia I was the sole commercial representative on a Design and Construct contract for the construction and jacking of a box culvert highway underpass under a live railway line ($10m). Duties included; development of subcontracts, comprehensive monthly commercial reporting, cost saving exercises, identification and submission of variations to the client. Monthly detailed forecasting of profit and cost on the project, client liaison and on-site commercial administration of the over-all project.

Commercially managing on a number of projects, these included – OLE Construction up to £7m, Isolation management, design and installation of temporary bonding, earth and switching, plant & labour supply. This incorporated tendering & estimating, variations to the contract, monthly applications for payments and invoices, monthly reports, predicted sales, client liaison and day-to-day management of contracts. In addition to the QS duties I undertook a project management role on some of the smaller projects.

Managing the rail RT/1a framework maintenance contracts with Railtrack on two major areas in the UK. This included high-level variations for S&C and P-way works, monthly applications for payment, client liaison, predicted sales and general commercial management of the contracts.
